Nerve Cell (Neuron) Structure

Nerve cells receive, process and transmit nerve signals that carry information in our body. The receptive portion of a nerve cell consists of dendrites which receive electrical impulses e.g. fro other nerve cells. These impulses then if strong enough produce one or more action potentials on the axon hillock of the neuron. The action potential(s) or spike(s) are transmitted through the axon and finally output at the presynaptic buttons of the nerve cell.
