Ingestion of food molecules

The intake of food particles the cell is going to digest occurs so that the particles are engulfed by the cell membrane and the resulting vesicle is brought into the cell.

A small particle of food (fat or carbohydrate molecules) is packed into a transport vesicle and this way brought into the cell interior where the vesicle with food fuses with vesicles from the Golgi apparatus (GA) and the lysosomes. All these vesicles contain enzymes which split the food molecules into the useful subunits from which the organism gets energy and unused fragments which are discarded.
